FULL DAY ITINERARY

The day trip to Materuni village begins with a morning pick-up from AICC, Clock Tower, or your hotel in Arusha at around 7:15 AM, ensuring enough time to make the most of the experience. The drive to Materuni Village offers a gradual shift from the open roads of Arusha to the lush foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Upon arrival, a brief check-in with the local authorities is required before heading on foot toward the waterfall. The walk winds through banana and fruit farms owned by the villagers. Materuni Waterfall itself is a 90-meter marvel, fed by glacier melt from Mount Kilimanjaro, with its waters crisp and refreshing. The natural pool at the base is quite inviting for a dip, though the mountain-fed temperatures make it an experience of its own. Comfortable hiking shoes and a swimsuit come in handy since you expect to wade in.

After time at the waterfall, the walk leads to the village, where the coffee plantation tour takes place. Materuni is known for its Arabica coffee, grown at high altitudes and harvested by hand. Whilst here, you will be guided through the traditional process; pulping, roasting over an open fire, and grinding with a wooden mortar while singing and dancing exciting Chagga songs. The communal spirit of the process makes it more than just a demonstration, it’s something you will remember for a lifetime.

A locally prepared lunch follows, with fresh ingredients sourced from the surrounding farms, offering an authentic taste of Chagga cuisine. Your guide will share stories of the village, its connection to Kilimanjaro, and how life here revolves around the mountain’s cycles.By 4:45 PM, you leave for Arusha, taking the same route back to the city. Drop-off is arranged at AICC, Clock Tower, or your hotel, marking the end of a day.
