Nestled at a comfortable altitude of 1,350m in the southern foothills of Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second-highest dormant volcano, Arusha provides an ideal starting point for your adventure. After breakfast, depart for Tarangire National Park for a full-day game drive. Dotted with ancient baobab trees, this mesmerizing wildlife reserve is part of an extensive ecosystem where animals roam freely. It stretches southeast of the beautiful Lake Manyara National Park, centered around the Tarangire River, offering an excellent opportunity for an authentic and immersive game-viewing experience.

The park is also considered a classic dry-season destination, particularly between July and October, when it boasts one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in the country’s northern safari circuit. Often termed the “elephant playground,” Tarangire has recorded the highest number of elephants in the region, which can be easily observed until October, when the short-wet season prompts migration. Among other renowned wildlife species, you may spot are hartebeests, wildebeests, zebras, elands, lesser kudus, gazelles, waterbucks, giraffes, impalas, leopards, and rhinos, which can be seen throughout the year.

In the afternoon, enjoy your packed lunch at a designated picnic site before resuming your game drive. As early evening sets in, proceed to your well-appointed lodge for dinner and overnight.

While it may not match the sheer abundance of wildlife found in other destinations, its secluded vegetation zones reveal a unique treasure trove of natural wonders. Named after its dominant feature – an alkaline lake at the base of wooded cliffs – Lake Manyara National Park offers more than expected.

Highlights include habituated baboon troops, blue monkeys in the groundwater forest, and a diverse range of mammals such as elephants, buffaloes, Maasai giraffes, hippos, and antelopes. Noteworthy are the elusive leopard, the famous tree-climbing lions (though sightings may be rare), a rich avian population, and the alkaline lake, which, during certain seasons, transforms into a haven for tens of thousands of flamingos.

Depending on the time of year, nearly two-thirds of the park’s total area may be submerged by the lake. Despite its compact size, Lake Manyara boasts diverse vegetation zones, ranging from savanna to marshes and acacia woodlands. This variety supports an array of habitats, offering a rare glimpse into wildlife in its natural setting.Enjoy a picnic lunch in the afternoon before resuming game-viewing activities, then retire to your well-appointed lodge in the early evening.

After breakfast at your lodge, you head to Central Serengeti (Seronera), via Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This part of the great Serengeti boasts remarkable mammalian diversity, with hundreds of thousands of animals roaming freely. Here, predators reign supreme, engaging in their pursuits amidst abundant prey.

Nearly eight thousand spotted hyenas, organized into formidable clans, along with three thousand majestic lions distinguished by their characteristic black manes, can be spotted here. In addition to these apex predators, cheetahs, leopards, and bat-eared foxes grace the landscape, contributing to the rich tapestry of Serengeti’s ecosystem. Scavengers, including golden and side-striped jackals, as well as various vulture species, play vital roles in this intricate web of life.

With over 520 bird species, Serengeti is a haven for avian enthusiasts, offering sightings of numerous raptors and migratory birds. Amidst the vast horizons and open plains, the sight of wildebeests, Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelles, and playful bat-eared foxes bathed in the morning sun is unforgettable. Experience the tranquility of the wilderness, appreciate the interconnectedness of all living things, and cherish the privilege of witnessing nature’s wonders firsthand.

Venture out on a thrilling day of game viewing, exploring the southern Serengeti plains near Ndutu after a delicious breakfast. These short-grass expanses are an ecological extension of the southern Serengeti, offering a classic safari experience with vast open plains and large wildebeest herds, especially from December to April. Witness a diverse array of wildlife, from bat-eared foxes to majestic lions, ostriches, secretary birds, eland antelopes, and more.

Ndutu is renowned for cheetah sightings, with opportunities for off-road exploration, making it a photographer’s delight. A pride of lions inhabits the koppies, offering an exciting nocturnal soundtrack and easy morning sightings. The southern plains feature rocky hills, or koppies, that harbor diverse wildlife. Lake Ndutu, a focal point during the wildebeest dispersal, promises dramatic game viewing during and after the calving season.

On the 7th day, enjoy a full day of game viewing at Moru Koppies, exploring the region’s rich wildlife before transferring back to your lodge in the early evening, savoring the culmination of an extraordinary adventure.

After breakfast, head to Ngorongoro Crater – an unmatched natural wonder – armed with a packed lunch to fuel your adventure. Upon arrival, descend nearly 2,000 feet to the crater floor, which spans an expansive 102 square miles. Measuring about 20 kilometers wide, Ngorongoro ranks among the largest calderas in the world.

Within its steep, unbroken walls, an extraordinary wildlife spectacle unfolds. Lions roam freely, elephants with exceptionally large tusks, thanks to the fertile volcanic soil, wander the plains, and buffaloes share the grasslands, swamps, and forests with wildebeests, Thomson’s gazelles, zebras, and reedbucks.

Encounters with black rhinos are also common, adding to the crater’s allure. The birdlife is just as impressive, particularly around Lake Magadi, a soda lake at the crater’s base that draws hundreds of flamingos to its shallows. As the day winds down, ascend the crater walls and head to your lodge for an overnight stay.
